If you've been keeping up with the news, Ubisoft is still going full speed ahead with this "Always Online DRM". The truly sad thing is that despite it saying this in CAPSLOCKED TEXT in 2 plainly visible places on the store page, AC2 has risen to Number 2 in the Top Sellers on Steam as of this post.

I honestly don't know what to say to that. I especially like the part in the huge text stating that they can terminate the online activation anytime with a 30 day warning. Good luck with that.

On the upside, our buddy LewieP of SavyGamer fame is rallying Europe to battle the French publisher/developer. It's a nice angle of attack. No sales and Ubi will scream piracy, huge sales and they smugly announce they were right. Sales that end up being returned, refunded and makes a chunk of their stock get labeled "Used" and resold with a lower price point just might be the way to get their attention. That's what I hope anyway.

As of now I'm unaware if there's anything similar happening on this side of the Atlantic, but our return policies here aren't nearly as understanding.

We'll keep everyone informed if anything else develops.

Michael Hermes has detailed an extensive guide about how you can create symbolic links in Windows 7 so that you can have some Steam games in different directories than the default and Windows / Steam will believe it's all still in the default
.

Michael Hermes wrote: This tutorial explains how to create a link between the main hard drive with Windows 7 installed on it to the larger hard drive with more space. It will involve deleting folders and using the command prompt, so if you’re not comfortable with either I would recommend exploring other options. That said, the process is fairly straightforward and easy to do. (The good news is that Steam allows unlimited downloads of purchased content. If you truly manage to bugger things, simply reinstall the Steam client and re-download all your games.)

As my good friend Fraser can attest, the Civilization games have ruined many a good relationship, friendship, or have been the sole cause of failings classes. Firaxis is at it again, having announced Civilization V. I spent way too many late nights playing Civilization IV (just one more fucking turn) and it put a large strain on my relationship with my wife (who was my girlfriend at the time). Still, I can't wait for the Fall to arrive with this game.

What the fuck.

Seriously? This is how you treat your PC gamers? When the game disconnects from your servers for whatever reason you're booted off - for a single player game? Wow, just wow. Even Steam doesn't do this, you lose your connection mid game and keep playing (with the exception of a multiplayer game naturally).

So yeah, Assassin's Creed 2 = skip, and any other Ubisoft game that uses this kind of mechanic. I have a pretty solid connection but even that is prone to the occasional hiccup.

I just, I just feel shocked.

Looks like there will be plenty to do for the cost conscious gamer this weekend. Currently, the Shadowgrounds games are 75% off due to Steam's midweek madness sale. Shattered Horizon will be free to play this weekend, from the 19th to the 21st of February and the price will be knocked down 50% during this time as well. If you're curious about this excellent and unique game then now is the time to check it out.

Also, GOG now has a number of Activision games in their catalog, including Gabriel Knight, Phantasmagoria and Vampire: The Masquerade: Redemption (one of my personal favorites). Interstate 76 is due to release at the end of February as well - looks like it'll be a good month for retro-ish PC gaming.

It's free and it's awesome. It adds four new levels to battle through. On top of this, a patch was released last week that added some much needed features to Shattered Horizon such as in-game VOIP. The MPR has been tweaked, making it a better grenade choice and all the sound effects have had an overhaul; they're a lot meatier.

The game was one of my favorite releases of 2009 and the recent patch, and now this additional content make it even better!
